Tinyfox Doll: Mouse Chef Mousse
I've been admiring Tinyfox dolls for a few years now. I was thinking of getting one, but for the longest time, I could never decide which one. When I first saw picures of Mouse Chef Mousse, I knew she had to be mine.
I pre-ordered her with some of my birthday money (I consider birthday money to be "mad money" to be used as I please). Then came the 2-month wait.
Finally, this afternoon, she arrived.
My first thought was, "This box is bigger than I expected." It looked big enough to hold 2 YoSD-sized dolls, not just one.
That's because Mousse didn't arrive in just one box. There are two!
One box held her head, wig, and all her clothes and accessories. The other held her body. So let's open them up and look inside!
Her colorful Tinyfox box held all of this. At first, I wasn't sure what to make of the little purple bubble-envelope.
Then I opened it, and it was her ears! Super-cute, and with good strong magnets.
I looked over her garments, and they are all very well-made and super-cute! I'm impressed with the quality. Every seam is neatly finished, and every raw edge is serged to prevent raveling.
"But L," you might think, "Tinyfox makes MJDS, and Mousse is advertised as a BJD. What gives?"
Well, Tinyfox made Mousse as a collaboration with DollieDoll, which produced the BJD body. Here's what you see when you open the blue box:
The body is very nice and poses well. It came with fine-grit sandpaper to buff out any imperfections, but I didn't see any.
Here are the head and body together. A few notes about assembling her:
- Her eyes stay in very well without any putty. I used the putty that came with her to attach the ear magnets inside her head.
- You will have to seriously fight to get that head on and the S-hook positioned correctly. And yes, that little plastic piece has to go between her head and the S-hook, in order to keep her vinyl head from being damaged. I used a knitting needle to lever everything together.
- Her hat, while very well-constructed, doesn't want to stay on her head, no matter how I adjust the elastic. I got it to look nice in a photo, but she's currently being displayed without her hat. This is a pity, because it really is a cute hat.
- Her tail is plush and on a wire. This makes it light, flexible, and surprisingly easy to get on around her waist. I put it between her underdress and her overdress, so that the wire doesn't stain her body or scuff it. (It never hurts to be careful.)
- Her hands attach with a magnet, making her easy to dress. (And you will need to remove her hands in order to get her apron just right.)
All in all, the Tinyfox Mouse Chef Mousse is very well-constructed and utterly adorable. She comes with a hefty price tag compared to the Nendoroids I've reviewed, but she's worth every penny and is a nice introduction to ball-jointed dolls. 10/10
